BumbleB English Monthly Update August 2023

BumbleB English Monthly Update August 2023

Welcome to our school monthly update for August 2023. Our school offers lessons for elementary school-aged children and above. In addition, we provide daily conversation and business English classes for adults. Lessons are offered at our school location in Yoga, Tokyo. Additionally, we provide Zoom lessons for remote students.

Please contact us at staff@bumblebenglish.com if you are interested in a trial lesson or have any questions about our school.

Group Lessons - Kids

In August, we had no regularly scheduled group lessons as most students had other plans for the summer. We will start regular lessons again from September 1st.

Private Lessons - Kids

Our private lessons for kids included both regular lessons for students and Summer Program lessons. Three students had their last lessons with us in early August before moving abroad. We were sad to see them leave but wish them all the best during their overseas life.

On a happier note, we welcomed back a long-term student, who is now a junior high school student and moved away from Yoga last December. After a half-year absence, it was wonderful to see the change in this student. Teenagers go through various emotional and physical changes, and sadly, when she left, she was sulky and moody. However, during our eight lessons throughout the summer, she was cheerful and engaging. It was a pleasure to teach her; we have known her since she was a bright and active kindergarten student.

For the Summer Program, lessons varied based on each student’s interests. For one student who lives in Beijing and returned for the summer break, we focused on getting him reading for the new school year, which starts in September. We concentrate on Scholastic Success workbooks for Grammar and Writing. Throughout roughly eight lessons, the student’s writing and grammar knowledge improved quite a bit, and he is ready for the new school year at his international school in Beijing.

Two junior high school students joined the Summer Program; one wanted to focus on the Eiken Level 4 exam, and the other wanted to prepare for a study abroad program at her school. It was a pleasure to teach both students, and I wish them well in their future.

Lastly, another student wanted to improve his writing skills, so for several lessons, we reviewed how to construct a three-paragraph response essay to questions such as “Do you think children should use tablets in school?” and “Do you think junior high schools should offer school lunches to their students?” This student lived in Singapore previously and has a good English foundation but needs more practice in writing clearly and developing supporting details.

Private Lessons - Adults

For our adult students, we continued lessons as usual. Our Paris-based student used our new online academy to practice reading article topics and conversational English. For our new adult students, we introduced material from BusinessEnglishPod.com. The materials on this website are pretty good and include listening to business English topics via a podcast and PDF files that cover the transcripts, vocabulary, and English expressions used in the dialogue.

Most of the material is free, though the PDFs can only be downloaded with one of the website’s paid subscriptions. The site covers many topics, including Telephone English, Negotiations, Presentations, and Sales English. I recommend this site for future students and anyone interested in improving their business English.

Summary

In August, BumbleB English bid farewell to three students who moved abroad and welcomed a new adult and an elementary school student. The school paused regular group lessons for kids in August but continued with private and Summer Program lessons. Additionally, the school was pleased to welcome back a junior high student after a half-year absence.

Several students are still testing our online academy, and we will continue improving it before we release it to everyone.

We encourage anyone interested in our school to contact us for a free trial lesson. Online lessons are available to students not in the Yoga vicinity.
